Description
Methylene blue is a specific dye for organic tissues.
Applied to dental tissue, it is thus capable of discerning organic elements from mineral elements of the same structure.
Placed at the bottom of an access cavity for example, it will color the pulp or necrotic tissues, without coloring the dentin which is partly mineralized.
It makes it easier to indicate the location of canal entrances when they are difficult to find.
Methylene Blue is also very interesting in endodontic surgery . Applied to the apical part of the root, it helps locate the canal orifices.
It is also very useful for highlighting cracks or fractures on a root. The crack/fracture lines are where bacteria attach. Methylene blue will very easily identify them by coloring them in a specific way.
